Burnout Isn’t a Personal Failure: Heal Your Nervous System and Reclaim Your Energy

In this episode of the Wild Enthusiasm for Living podcast, I’m talking about burnout. What it really is, how it shows up in our bodies and nervous systems, and how we move beyond it in a way that’s actually sustainable. I share my personal story of working as a psychologist in high-pressure systems where I felt overworked, undervalued, and without agency, and how those experiences slowly led me to my own breaking point.

I explore why burnout is not a personal failure, lack of resilience, or motivation problem, but often the result of prolonged stress, misaligned values, and environments that keep us in constant fight or flight. I walk through common burnout symptoms like chronic exhaustion, anxiety, depression, brain fog, irritability, numbness, overworking, procrastination, and losing connection to purpose, and explain how these are signs of a nervous system that hasn’t had the chance to regulate. I also share practical tools for nervous system regulation, including movement, breathwork, EFT tapping, and simple daily practices that support healing, clarity, and resilience. We talk about how the lack of value, choice, and alignment leads people to slowly shut down.

If you’re feeling burned out, overwhelmed, stuck, or questioning whether what you’re experiencing is anxiety or depression, this episode is an invitation to look deeper, understand what’s really happening, and begin reclaiming your energy, health, and sense of self so you can reconnect with your wild enthusiasm for living.
