EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)Â is a structured, research-backed therapy that helps people process and heal from painful or traumatic experiences that are still affecting their lives.
In EMDR, you’re gently guided to recall distressing memories, just enough to activate the emotional and physical responses, while using bilateral stimulation like guided eye movements or tapping. This process helps the brain “unstick” the memory and reprocess it in a way that feels resolved and no longer emotionally overwhelming.
You don’t have to relive every detail, but you do engage with the memory, so your brain and body can finally move through it.
At Journey to Present, we utilize EMDR as a powerful tool to help clients process and release the emotional impact of difficult experiences, allowing them to reconnect with themselves in the present moment.
EMDR isn’t about telling your story over and over. Instead, it helps your brain and body do the work of healing by gently revisiting the memory, noticing what comes up, and using bilateral stimulation to support your natural ability to reprocess and move forward.
You may feel the emotions of the memory, but you don’t have to stay stuck in them. EMDR can bring resolution to experiences that once felt overwhelming, creating space for calm, clarity, and deeper connection to your present self.
EMDR can support healing in areas such as:
- Trauma and PTSD
- Anxiety and panic
- Depression
- Grief and loss
- Relationship patterns
- Low self-worth
- Childhood wounds
- Stress and burnout
- Life transitions
I offer both online EMDR sessions and in-person appointments in Geneva, IL.
